Darren (he/him), DB@EB or Deebs, as he's known for those close to him, has a tremendously diverse skill-set. He's one of those people who loves a variety of activities but seemingly excels at all of them! At his core you'll find a student of life, wanting to learn and grow every day, a father and a friend with a giving heart, a quick learner but a deep study... with a deep desire to help make the world a better place, ideally through bikes! Darren is known for his love of music and also his diverse skill-set and athleticism through a variety of sports he participates in at a very high level.
His passion for life and making the most of it comes through in his drive for life each day... his positivity, attitude & determination - having overcome some obstacles along the way too. Facing a career-ending injury as a professional freerider in 2002, Darren used the opportunity to re-train himself, attending Multimedia school while in a wheelchair... learning how to walk again while learning an entirely new array of skills that he still utilizes today. Darren spent 3 years recovering from the accident and this was a catalyst for his leap of faith and helped co-found Endless Biking in 2004 and a dream began to take shape. Since then DB has been pouring his life into creating great experiences for mountain bikers, regardless of ones level and experience!
Darren's true craft is teaching Mountain Biking, it's apparent when you see him teach. His passion for wanting to help others shines through and with over 20 years of teaching experience, an incredibly quick eye for details and a strong riding background, he is now one of the most experienced and capable Instructor & Guides in North America. Darren has experience working with a wide array of students such as adults, kids, womens; only groups, riders with disabilities, minorities, different languages, men, school groups, corporate groups as well as high level athletes who still compete today. Darren's extensive background, paired with his simple and fun breakdowns of the sport, make him a really easy Instructor to learn from, but also one of the most capable Guides too with some of the most current training available around the world.
Darren has not only been certified to Instruct & Guide by NCCP, CMIC, MBIT and now is one of PMBIA's 14 Level 4 Instructor & Guides certified in the world. Darren now helps train Instructors & Guides as a Course Conductor and Assistant Technical Director with the PMBIA, which is becoming the global industry standard for the mountain bike industry, available in over 20 countries. Darren has been volunteering time into the creation of the PMBIA since 2006 eventually co-founding the association with a collaboration of good people bringing their knowledge together to share for a greater good. This extensive teaching background, as well as being an Instructor at Capilano University & College of the Rockies. Darren has taught thousands of riders through various camps, lessons, clinics and Instructor Training courses all over BC and even around the world over the last 20 years.
Darren’s commitment to community is strong, involved in countless community projects and initiatives throughout BC. A co-founder of the Kootenay Trail Building Association in Invermere, BC (KTBA), former Director of NSMBA, now currently volunteers time with a variety of clubs around the province and currently supports the NSMBA (North Shore Mountain Bike Association), SORCA (Squamish Off-Road Cycling Association), WORCA (Whistler Off-Road Cycling Association), FVMBA (Fraser Valley Mountain Bike Association), UROC (United Riders of Cumberland), NCC (Nelson Cycling Club), CTS (Castlegar Trails Society), KCTS (Kootenay Columbia Trails Society), BLMBA (Burns Lake Mountain Bike Association), TORCA (Terrace Off-Road Cycling Association). Darren is also known to do some anonymous trail maintenance at various locations.
Darren’s varied skill-set was captured in international media coverage, through various TV shows, MTB videos and magazines in the early 2000's even up until today. A humble yet creative, diverse and technically-sound rider, DB can ride it all at a very high level; a playful & smooth rider who's good at finding flow in the jank, making jumps out of bumps, loves to ride the tech trails in the rain or pump the flow but also good at really technical climbs…. you get the idea! His diverse riding background includes competing in the world’s first freeride events: the Red Bull Rampage and Red Bull Freezride, Roundhouse Rumble in 2000, 2001, as well as being a featured rider on Drop In TV (22 countries), Ride Guide TV, various Mountain Biking BC promotions, pro racing at BC/Canada Cups for all 3 disciplines ( DH, 4X, XC), Norco Factory Team manager, and event organizer and MC for various events around Vancouver area of BC including the BC Bike Race, which he has now ridden in over 10 events, now part of the Bike Patrol.
